FAQs

  • There is no set way of ‘doing’ therapy. The healing happens as the therapeutic relationship develops over time.

During your sessions, you’re invited to talk about anything that comes to mind, whether from your past, your current life or something in the present. You’re invited to talk about any reactions you might be having in the room during your therapy sessions, which will help understand what you might be struggling with.

  • When painful feelings and experiences are pushed away, they get more power, and come out stronger via other channels, such as anxiety, panic, disruptions in thinking or somatically (sometimes as unexplained medical conditions). Therapy is a process of gradually reconnecting with your feelings, which may be painful, but which will pass, leaving you feeling better.

When client’s first come in, they’re submerged in the pain indefinitely. After being in therapy for a while the painful emotions become more like a wave. They come, wash over you, and then go. Being able to feel pain opens up the door to being able to feel positive feelings such as joy, love and gratitude, and leads to a much happier life.

  • How long does it take to untangle a tangled up ball of string? Humans are all unique which means there’s no cookie-cutter approach and it all depends on the individual.

Someone in twice-weekly therapy will more often than not, progress faster than someone in once weekly therapy.

  • “More recently, the Tavistock Adult Depression Study (TADS) was the first randomized controlled trial in the NHS to establish if long term psychoanalytic* psychotherapy provides relief for patients suffering from chronic depression not helped by other treatments. Published in 2015, the research showed a marked and more lasting improvement for those receiving psychoanalytic psychotherapy, demonstrating the benefits of addressing the personal and psychological issues that underlie chronic depression”. - The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust

*Psychoanalytic and psychodynamic are the same type of therapy, the difference is that with the psychoanalytic model the patient is in therapy 3-5x per week, and in the psychodynamic model the patient is in therapy 1-2x per week.

  • Therapy consultations cost £75 per session in Romsey, Hampshire, and £85 in Wandsworth, London.

I review fees annually at the end of the financial year, and may increase fees in line with inflation.
